Moving to a new country can be quite a daunting task. In this particular segment, we are going to talk about the necessary terms you need to know if you are someone looking to settle down in Canada and trying to land a job.

When it comes to landing a job or trying to acquire a permanent residency, numerous terms are floating around such as the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System), NOC (National Occupational Classification), ECA and many more terms. But you would need to familiarize yourself with all these terms to make sure that you can successfully acquire a Canadian Visa application. It is important to understand terms such as the CRS score, ECA, and your NOC code as they can all help you add up your PR points for your PR Canada from India.

Before we understand what a NOC code is and how you can find out your NOC code using an NOC finder Canada, let us first read how the Canadian Express Entry System works.  There are typically three different government economic programs under the Express Entry System. Each of these programs focuses on a particular level or skill. These programs are as follows:

    – Level A or B and Skill type 0 in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, these jobs could be in the fields of Managerial, professional, and technical jobs.

    – The federal skilled trade program includes electrical, construction, and industrial trades, supervisors, maintenance, technical occupations in natural resources, agricultural, manufacturing, processing, and utilities.

    – The Canadian Experience Class program also includes Level A or B and Skill type 0 in Technical, Skilled Trade jobs, and Professional Jobs

Now coming to NOC, it stands for National Occupational Code. It is a system devised by the Canadian government to classify each job or occupation depending on skills. This is determined by the nature of the work, the topic of study, or the industry, as well as other details such as education, training, and work experience. There are two ways in which these categories are broadly classified:

    – Broad Occupational Category:

In this category, job experience specific to the industry is necessary; this indicates the topic of study,  the industry or the type of work. The NOC code’s first number represents the broad work category.

    – The Skill Level:

The skills level encompasses a wide variety of characteristics such as training, work experience, and education. The complications of the job’s obligations and tasks are also considered. The NOC code’s second number represents the level of skills.

IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) uses the NOC to evaluate and read an immigration applicant’s job experience and detect shortage of skills in the labor market of Canada. Almost every day, workers, students, employers, vocational and career counselors, and training and educational institutes use the NOC.

You will require the NOC code for establishing the job experience for which you wish to receive CRS points.

It is important to understand how you can find out your NOC code. In order to know your NOC code, you would have to visit the government portal and look for the NOC matrix using keyword search or industry search (for example, job title).

You can also identify which NOC code can best describe your occupation. You can do this by looking at suitable job titles, broad occupational categories, and skill levels. This can, in turn, help you evaluate which immigration programs you may be eligible for. It is important to use the right NOC code that corresponds to the primary roles of work experience you want to claim CRS scores for. You must also read about what NOC codes qualify for PR (Permanent Residency). If your job has a NOC code of o, A or B, you can apply for permanent residency under any of the programs under the Express Entry system.

The codes 0, A and B are meant for highly skilled workers. This broadly includes managers, physicians, plumbers, chefs, electricians etc. Once you can determine your NOC code, you can choose the type of immigration program you would want to apply for. You can not only choose your immigration program but also apply for jobs in the country. The NOC code also lets you figure out the expectations of the organizations or companies that you are employed in, in Canada. It also allows you to figure out if you require any additional training based on your qualifications and occupation.

But just understanding the NOC code alone will not ensure the success of your Canadian visa application. There are numerous steps involved in the visa process, which you must understand and plan your steps accordingly. You should know about all Canada work permit requirements. You must understand every term and guideline set in the visa process. Having sound knowledge about the entire process can help you keep your affairs in order and allow you to experience a smooth visa application process.
