Coming up against Mei’s Ice Wall in an Overwatch 2 match, players are faced with a bug that renders the ability completely useless.
Overwatch 2 Bug Lets Players Easily Escape Mei’s Wall
An Overwatch 2 gamer caught a bug that renders Mei’s Ice Wall ability pretty useless. It’s just the latest addition to the ongoing narrative surrounding Overwatch 2’s rocky start, a story that has been plagued with server problems, hacks, and bugs like this.
Since its release earlier this month, fan sentiment about the game has been up and down, and several reviews of Overwatch 2 have come to a similar conclusion: it’s good, but it lacks the magic and exclusivity that left the original. made special. To add to the downside, players have battled against a number of gameplay issues and long queue times. The Internet has recorded an endless amount of problematic glitches, some of which have seriously impeded gamers’ ability to play or enjoy games properly.
While it cannot be certain how much this affected the player’s enjoyment, it is clear that this latest bug hampered their ability to play properly and could potentially turn the match in the opponents’ favor. Reddit user -Snackles- posted a video of Mei after one of her abilities failed to work properly, leaving an enemy team under its influence. Mei’s abilities in Overwatch 2 are based around ice and the ability in question, Ice Wall, is intended to block a path for an enemy or protect a player’s team. But it did not happen in this case. As the players approached the wall, instead of stopping, they simply came to the top of the wall and started running over it, making it completely useless.
In the short clip, it appears a player tries to erect a wall of ice to prevent his opponents from running away. The opposing team’s Mercy is healing Orissa while the two back-pedal, as Soldier 76 provides some cover fire. The Mei player throws up the wall to stop his retreat, which usually puts all three in a dangerous position. Yet instead of being blocked, all three characters suddenly come to the top of a wall of ice and pass over it without skipping a beat. The wall then serves the opposite of its intended purpose, as it begins to protect the enemy from fire from Mei and her team.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the only example of player frustration over the Mei bugs in Overwatch 2. And she’s certainly not alone, as all kinds of glitch abilities have appeared for multiple characters. It’s problems like these that make one wonder if the game would have been left to cook for a while before its release. With queuing time frustrations and ability issues combined with several other bugs, player patience will wan and the positive feeling you have for the game will drop.
Despite the negativity surrounding the game though, veteran Overwatch 2 fans are still out. Hopefully, the rough edges of the game are removed and player/critic complaints are resolved, so gamers can go back to happily destroying a giant hamster with their dual-armed shotgun.
